Oregano is a hardy perennial herb known for its strong, pungent flavour and aroma. The bold flavour of Oregano is often described as savoury, slightly bitter, and slightly spicy.
Oregano is a versatile herb particularly used in tomato-based dishes, grilled meats, and stews. Dried Oregano intensifies the flavour and aroma, which makes a good option for seasoning, and tea.
Cut and come again! Oregano is relatively easy to grow on Grobrix and can quickly become overgrown if not harvested frequently. Regular harvesting helps to control the size of the plant, encourage the production of new leaves, and prevent the plant from becoming too woody and dry.
Start by identifying the new growth on the plant. These are the most flavorful and fragrant leaves. Snip off the new growth, leaving about 5 cm of stem and repeat this process every 3-5 weeks.
Oregano plants may develop long roots, lift the net pods up to check the roots every 3 weeks and trim extending roots, leaving just one pinky finger long of roots extended from the base of the net pod.
