to rekindle the connection between people, their food, and our world.
We see a future where every individual is connected to the food they consume. Where urban farms are not just sources of food but vibrant hubs of education and empowerment, and where people grow stronger together through acts of cultivation and stewardship.
This is the world we are committed to creating, where the simple act of growing together helps us all grow.
Through education, advocacy, and sustainable practices, we want to rekindle the bond between people, their food, and the earth, building healthier, more connected communities and a platform for a more resilient food system.
In 2020, Mathew decided to draw a line under a fifteen year career in financial markets to go on a mission to encourage, enthuse, educate and empower urban communities to grow some of their own food. Fuelled by the pandemic and the belief that city dwellers would all want to live more sustainable, food secure, happier, healthier lives, he began laying down designs to blend modular furniture aesthetics with simple modern farming techniques.
In July 2021, the Grobrix micro wall farm was born.
Yong Liang had been helming his corporate role in the energy sector for 15 years when he decided to throw the towel to grow and build companies with like-minded people, fuelled with purpose and passion. During the pandemic, he began his venturing endeavour, largely revolving around the agriculture and technology sector, and in a twist of fate, he landed himself in Grobrix. Things gradually worked out by themselves, and he never looked back.
He is a certified yoga practitioner, as well as an avid competitive tennis player who enjoys drinking Kombucha and trying very hard to make his own SCOBY. In the end, he sticks to what he does best – Farming. Grobrix is farming – farming for a purpose, a lifestyle and a future. He self-quoted that “Bitcoins mine the future of money; Grobrix farm the future of lifestyle.” Go Grobrix.
I’ve fallen head over heels for urban farming and plan to grow stronger in this field, encouraging everyone to stay close to their healthy food sources. After spending around 14 years in corporate support roles, I decided to get closer to mother nature on a daily basis. My love for plants started with my mom, who had a knack for growing both edible and non-edible goodies. She once grew two rows of sunflowers that magically bloomed on my birthday, a memory that still makes me smile widely thinking of those beautiful memories.
Besides farming, I love hiking, running, and tinkering with carpentry. When I’m not in the garden, you’ll find me in the pool, teaching kids, adults, and senior citizens how to swim. My goal? To spread the joy of growing your own food and staying active, just like my parents inspired me to do. Grobrix is my destiny! This group of enthusiastic urban farmers and growers has provided me with the perfect platform to combine my love for farming and my desire to inspire others. I look forward to growing alongside Grobrix and making a positive impact on the Malaysian community.
