The name Butterhead comes from its’ butter-soft texture rather than its flavour, which is mild with a hint of floral sweetness.
Butterhead Lettuce pairs well with sharp flavours like strong cheeses, citrus and meat. It is best eaten raw. Grow your own butterhead lettuce at home with Grobrix!
Baby Leaves – Start snipping from the outer leaves when they reach 10-12 cm in length, leaving 3 cm from the base and avoiding the crown. Also avoid cutting more than a third of the plant to ensure continuous growth.
Whole head – Remove the whole lettuce from the net pot.
Can be kept up to 1 week with the root ball intact, and proper storage in the fridge.
Butterhead Lettuces need good air circulation to grow well; gently open up the inner leaves to prevent the core from balling up as they grow bigger.
