Today we’re continuing our International Women’s Day series with Fleur Vally, Marketing Communications Manager at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove, who offers insights into her career journey and the broader significance of investing in women.

“Investing in women is as important as investing in any professional person. It is important that women feel included and part of the business landscape, said Vally.

“In my own career, I’ve always felt that my managers and HR team supported me and invested in me for instance with various trainings I could follow within the organisations I worked for,” says Vally, reflecting on her own ascent and the pivotal role of support and investments from her mentors and HR teams,” she said.

Vally sheds light on the strategic advantage of investing in women, citing studies linking gender diversity in leadership roles with enhanced organisational performance. “In my viewpoint, the commitment to investing in women is tantamount to acknowledging the diverse perspectives and skills they bring to the table. It is not merely a gesture of inclusivity but a strategic move that amplifies the collective strength of a workforce.

“Through targeted support, such as mentorship programs, leadership training, and career development initiatives, organisations can harness the potential of female professionals.

“Numerous studies have highlighted the positive correlation between gender diversity in leadership roles and enhanced organisational performance. Diverse teams bring a variety of perspectives, problem-solving approaches, and creativity, which are essential elements for navigating the complexities of today’s business environment.

While financial investments play a significant role, Vally underscores the importance of day-to-day support in nurturing women’s leadership development. “Continuous encouragement and backing in terms of ideas and projects are equally pivotal,” she says, advocating for a holistic approach to professional growth, said Vally.

Navigating the path towards gender equality hasn’t been devoid of challenges for Vally. Recalling instances where breaking barriers demanded resilience,

“I can recall several instances where breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes became part of my journey towards gender equality. One notable challenge was in assuming leadership roles traditionally held by men in the former industry I have worked in. Initially met with skepticism, I navigated through by consistently showcasing my skills and competence, emphasising that leadership knows no gender.

“Overcoming these stereotypes required resilience and a commitment to proving that capability transcends traditional expectations. This experience reinforced my belief in the importance of pushing boundaries for the collective advancement of women in the professional sphere,” she concluded.
