In a world where our relationship with food is often overshadowed by convenience and fast-paced lifestyles, our mission at Grobrix is to change the narrative. We believe in empowering individuals to reconnect with their food sources and promote sustainable living. Today, we share the inspiring journey of our ambassador, nutritionist Charlotte Mei, who personifies these values and is making a very real impact in the world of nutrition and urban farming.
With a background in nutrition, media and experience working with food manufacturers, Charlotte has dedicated her career to improving people’s relationship with food and their bodies. “I’m passionate about educating others on nutrition and helping them make informed choices,” she says.
Her journey began when she recognised that many individuals struggled with understanding the impact of their food choices. “People often start caring about their food only when their health begins to deteriorate,” she reflects. This realisation mirrored our collective attitude toward the planet—only becoming urgent when consequences become irreversible. Fuelled by this insight, she launched her Instagram account to raise awareness about food waste and locavorism, sharing valuable tips on nutrition and sustainable living along the way.
Charlotte’s path led her to us at Grobrix, where she found a community that shares her commitment to sustainability. “When (my friend) Lauren invited me to see her setup, I immediately thought, ‘sign me up!’” The connection was instant, and soon after, she was collaborating with Grobrix to promote urban farming. Charlotte has participated in panels discussing home gardening and conducted hands-on nutrition masterclasses, guiding participants in creating meals using their Grobrix harvest.
Urban farming holds tremendous potential for enhancing our connection to food. “When individuals grow their own produce, even in small spaces, they gain a deeper understanding of where their food comes from,” she explains. This hands-on experience encourages mindful eating habits and a greater appreciation for fresh, locally grown food. Furthermore, urban farming plays a vital role in reducing the carbon footprint associated with food transport, decreasing packaging waste, and promoting biodiversity through the cultivation of diverse plants.
In her kitchen, Charlotte seamlessly integrates fresh, home-grown produce into her daily meals. “I love adding fresh herbs from my Grobrix as a garnish—they elevate the flavour and nutrition of any dish,” she notes. Two of her favourite recipes are Asian Pesto and Thunder Tea Rice, highlighting the vibrant flavours of her home garden. “Growing my own food has sparked meaningful conversations with friends and encouraged them to think about their own food sources,” she adds. This is what it means to be “growing together.”
Balancing her diverse career and personal commitment to sustainability can be challenging, but Charlotte finds it deeply rewarding. By prioritising her values and incorporating sustainable practices into her daily life, she achieves harmony between her roles. Meal prepping with home-grown produce supports her health while also reducing food waste. “I carry reusable bags, minimise plastic use, and make conscious food choices,” she emphasises, illustrating how small actions can lead to significant change.
Through her partnership with Grobrix, Charlotte has discovered that vertical farming allows for year-round crop production, regardless of external weather conditions. “This capability is crucial for minimising our reliance on unpredictable environmental factors,” she says.
“I look forward to running more masterclasses to share the positive impacts of growing one’s own food—not just on the environment but also on our mental and physical health,” she concludes.
We are proud to work with advocates like Charlotte who are dedicated to building a sustainable future. By reconnecting with our food sources and “growing together,” we can all contribute to a healthier planet.
