Chocolate mint (Mentha × piperita ‘Chocolate’) is a cultivar of peppermint (Mentha × piperita). Chocolate mint gets its name from its chocolate-like flavour and aroma. It has a sweeter and milder taste compared to regular peppermint. The aroma of chocolate mint is often described as a pleasant blend of minty freshness and subtle chocolate notes. It has a soothing and inviting scent that can enhance the overall sensory experience.


The flavour combines elements of both mint and chocolate, making it a popular choice for desserts, teas, and cocktails.

Care and Harvesting Tips:

Cut and come again! Mint is a rapid growing plant and can quickly become overgrown if not harvested frequently. Regular harvesting helps to control the size of the plant, encourage the production of new leaves, and prevent the plant from becoming too woody and dry. 


Start by identifying the new growth on the plant. These are the most flavorful and fragrant leaves. Snip off the new growth, leaving about 5 cm of stem and repeat this process every 3-5 weeks.


Mint plants may develop long roots, lift the net pods up to check the roots every 3 weeks and trim extending roots, leaving just one pinky finger long of roots extended from the base of the net pod.
